Terms of Use

This form is required to ski/snowboard in the Tree Riding areas at Hakuba47. It is understood that the following rules will be strictly enforced for the Tree Riding Zone.
Though we want our guests to enjoy this terrain, please understand that it does come with increased risk of potentially serious injury and avalanche/snow burial.

  1. All of the Tree Riding areas are entirely natural and are therefore not maintained

  2. Some avalanche control is carried out, but it does not eliminate the risk completely. There is still the potential for natural or human triggered avalanches.

  3. Tree Riding involves anticipated as well as unanticipated risks, such as; changes in snow quality and consistency, hidden tree stumps or branches, tree-wells, creeks, crevasse and hollows under the snow.

  4. It is possible to be buried under deep snow and not visible to the public or patrol. In severe cases this could lead to suffocation.

  5. There is the potential to crash into another skier, a tree or even wild animal. Wild animals may attack.

  6. This area is not patrolled. The result is that a rescue requiring patrol may take a long time to come and be very hard to access.

  7. In the case that an aerial search and rescue is requested it will be in the hands of the Hakuba47 search and rescue team. You will be liable for all related search and rescue costs. Furthermore, if you do not return your bib by 15:00(3pm) you will be treated as a missing person and the search and rescue team will be sent out. In this instance expenses for the search and rescue team will be charged to you as follows;

    *Patrol staff (per person)   \20,000/hour
    *Snowmobile (per snowmobile) \5,000/hour (for transfer and transport of patrol staff)
    *Snow groomer (per car) \50,000/hour (for transfer of patrol staff, transport, salvage, lamplight)
    *Others (standby duty personnel, meal, request of helicopter will be at self-expense)

  8. Those between the ages of 12 and 18 must have parental consent, be a minimum of 150cms tall and be with a parents or guardian at ALL times whilst in the Tree Riding Zone. Furthermore, their parent or guardian must accompany them to the safety briefing in order to provide the necessary consent.
